Abstract. I will describe properties of interval exchange transformations (IET). I will recall classical results. In particular, I will mention a famous result by Avila and Forni: almost every IET is weakly mixing. In the rest of the talk, I will explain construction of (non generic) interval exchange transformations with a strange behavior: they are measurably conjugated to rotations of the two dimensional torus.
